Slow paced but very worth while, Arrival explores the importance of communication and empathy, as well as a significant sub-plot that everyone deserves a chance to live, even if it's painful.

Hacksaw Ridge is many things. But first and foremost, it is a celebration of a man who refused to bend -- before hostile commanding officers or under withering enemy fire -- and stuck to his faith and commitment to human decency in the face of horrific circumstances.
The first half of the movie plays like it was made during its 1940s setting. The lead characters are likable, even a little naive, and the writing is old-fashioned and sometimes cliche. But it is all so charming and lovable. The middle, where Doss must face army training and hostile bunkmates, alternates between great earnestness and a very funny Vince Vaughn in near-apoplectic-sergeant mode. The last half is packed with Desmond Doss' heroic, self-sacrificial ministry to the wounded during Okinawa (the bloodiest battle of World War II), set against a backdrop of unrelenting and disturbing war violence.
To my way of thinking, it is one of the best films of recent movie-making.
Bonus Recommend: To balance out the lack of examination of the war from the Japanese perspective, I recommend Hayao Miyazaki's haunting, beautiful "Grave of the Fireflies" also be watched.Hacksaw Ridge is many things. The film is a bit black-and-white in its portrayal of events (never once do Federales soldiers bat an eye as they execute their heinous deeds, Cristeros are nearly all noble, or at least die nobly), but it works extremely well as a fictionalized account of a little-known period of Mexican history. Very worth watching if you can handle the inevitable harrowing experience of any war movie. While not particularly gruesome, For Greater Glory does not flinch from portraying the unsparing nature of warfare, and the sometimes ruthless path of history. The film is a bit black-and-white in its portrayal of events (never once do Federales soldiers bat an eye as they execute their heinous deeds, Cristeros are nearly all noble, or at least die nobly), but it works extremely well as a fictionalized…

The movie starts off a little strained, going for emotion and trying to make you get attached to the characters through generic scenes and fairly cheesy dialogue. However, once the storm starts and the ocean starts churning, the movie saves itself. It's pretty hard to go wrong with forty-foot waves and a tense rescue, and the filmmakers deliver pretty well. It could have been a better film, but the bones of the story are timeless (man vs the elements) , and the final picture is a great one.The movie starts off a little strained, going for emotion and trying to make you get attached to the characters through generic scenes and fairly cheesy dialogue. This was a very well-done movie. The acting was strong, but the real star of the movie was the mountain. Gorgeous, breathtaking, heartbreaking film.

This movie was ridiculously action packed. It's a miracle that it didn't collapse under it's own wait. It almost did. Almost. But it didn't. While not as good as the first one, Avengers: Age of Ultron introduces some interesting new characters and effectively sets the stage for the Infinity War movies. It has only a few quiet moments, but the quiet moments it does have are beautifully acted, beautifully shot, and provide answers to some pressing questions, particularly about Widow and Hawkeye. This movie will, for one thing, never be accused of being boring...This movie was ridiculously action packed. It's a miracle that it didn't collapse under it's own wait. It almost did. Almost. I really like this movie. It is a little more violent than the first, but it continues with the theme (for the most part) that anyone who dies either deserved it, wasn't a major character, or died heroically so you're not sad. I think the introduction of new dinosaur species was amazing. There are also some excellent and at times hilarious sequences involving a large carnivore loose on the mainland. There is one major plothole, however, so be warned that the story is not as seamless and believable as the first one. There is more dino action! And it's awesome!I really like this movie. Summary:
When an ailing John Hammond is forced to sign ownership of InGen over to his greedy and unscrupulous nephew, Hammond desperately enlists the help of Ian Malcolm, nature photographer Nick van Owen, field expert Eddie Carr, and Ian's wildlife expert girlfriend Sarah to document the dinosaurs in their natural habitat. He hope's that the documentation of the dinosaurs as animals will awaken the public to say that Isla Sorna (InGen's base of operations where the bred the dinosaurs, it turns out Isla Nublar was only the theme park) should be declared a dinosaur preserve, keeping that lost world from "being found and pillaged." As expected, things don't go quite as expected for a team of naturalists on a dinosaur study, Ian's daughter stows away, a rival team is brought in by the new InGen owner, a T Rex discovers their presence...let's just say things go downhill and in some cases down a T Rex's throat fast. In the early chaos, the communication equipment is smashed, and the groups must unite and make their way across the raptor nesting grounds to the radio at the abandoned park.
Before time runs out and the boat leaves, meaning they will be stranded forever! When an ailing John Hammond is forced to sign ownership of InGen over to his greedy and unscrupulous nephew, Hammond desperately enlists the help of Ian Malcolm, nature photographer Nick van Owen, field expert Eddie Carr, and Ian's wildlife expert…

I really enjoyed this book. Some of the scenes were different from the movie, and there were some new ones too so that even if you've seen the movie the book still has A TON of suspense. To some of the people who were sad Malcolm died, he actually didnt, if you read the sequel 'The Lost World' it is revealed he was in a small hospital in Costa Rica for six months and was reported dead by the newspapers.I really enjoyed this book. This is a very, very good soundtrack. Because the movie was hardly anything but action, the score is very exiting all the way through. I recommend this to any film score fan, and the movie I recommend to all who love MARVELous movies.

I'm sorry, but I really hate this soundtrack. Alan Silvestri's score for 'The First Avenger' was wonderful, and I'm trying to find out why they didn't bring him back for 'The Winter Soldier'... and why Cap needed a new theme. It's really synthesized, and there are parts that are grating, and actually hurt my ears. The only really good track is 'End of the Line'. It's a pretty, emotional piano piece (well, mostly piano) that just is...nice.I'm sorry, but I really hate this soundtrack. Heart-breaking, beautiful, and poignant, War Horse manages to convey suffering, sadness, heroism, courage, and innocence in one wonderful experience. Told through the eyes of a horse, characters are judged throughout by their actions rather than by whether they wear a uniform or what color it is. The movie avoids being political or explicitly anti-war, instead depicting candidly but with restraint the human dramas of WWI. It is certainly an emotional ride, but not fluffy or lightweight. Overall, it is bitter-sweet, and I definitely recommend it for anyone over the age of 10 or so (there are scenes of non-graphic but intense war violence, peril, and harrowing suffering of animals).
And there's Tom Hiddleston. And Benedict Cumberbatch. And a beautiful horse. Check, check, check.
