I haven't read the book that this film spun off from. Interested to learn whether the sequence matters. I recommend this story if the viewer can commit to hanging in there till the end. Never doubt that Florida brings out the weird in some…

Strange, interesting, made me want to read The Orchid Thief.

Presumably the title and evolution subtheme derive from the orchid angle. Even Susan Orlean can’t believe she gave her permission, ‘but I love the movie now.’ Too funny and clever to be disturbing; way too bizarre for some folks. I…

Very strange. Just watched a few minutes.

Charlie Kaufman (writer)- sometimes paired with director Spike Jonze- has a peculiar way of tackling the human condition in his work through a blend of depressive themes & comedy. I think the plot was pretty loose but purposeful -…

An essential Nicolas Cage film. The story of a nervous screenwriter trying to find himself and subsequently the soul of his screenplay.

Superb. Beautiful. Funny. Nicolas Cage as Charlie and Donald Kaufman, are you kidding me!? The hair! Chris Cooper won a Supporting Actor Oscar. Meryl Streep was nominated. Cage lost to Brody in "The Pianist." (Holocaust film). Cage needs…

Muryl Strepp is in this, so I'll skip this one, thanks. She needs to retire.

Lovelorn losers are tiresome themes. And Cage's character, slowly plodding to bliss is annoyingly predictable. The collision of stories and characters may be very original, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it keeps the viewer…

The writing for this movie may be the most imaginative that I've ever encountered. I watched it years ago then recently read the "Orchid Thief" and then rewatched this movie. It really helps to read the book to recognize where facts and…

So creative!! I love the way the stories are woven together.

Make mine meta! For all their importance, the screenwriter doesn't get much respect in Hollywood (also see: "Barton Fink"). Charlie Kaufman, who also wrote "Being John Malkovich" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," is the rare…

mpg00913 If you're expecting a fairly close adaptation of the book THE ORCHID THIEF then you'll be sorely disappointed. Not that the cinema is poor - it's fair - but just not faithful to the book at all.

I prefer watching Streep playing a cold-hearted selfish bitch to a warm-hearted tearful godness. Cage did a good job playing the double roles. It took me a half hour to get interested in the story.

It is worth seeing just for Chris Cooper's performance. I liked a lot it for the first three-quarters, then inot so much when it degenerated into a typical Hollywood situation,( although that is part of the screenwriter's point.) Some…

this movie is unusual and held my attention for the first half but then began to remind me of series TV when by the 3rd season the plots begin to get more and more absurd. It has great stars and I had a lot of hope that it was going to be…

Charlie Kaufmann's "8½". How to write a script about writing a script, while writing a script adapting a novel that cannot be adapted into a film. Brilliant, and easily the best work Nicholas Cage has ever done.
