One of the most beautifully written, heart-wrenching books I've ever read--it reads like prose poetry and has a passion that will surprise and move most readers.

This book is famous for not giving the gender of the narrator, but someone I didn't even notice that. Asked later if I'd imagined the narrator as a man or a woman, I said 'neither.' I should probably re-read it...
