A Walk to Remember
There was a time when the world was sweeter....when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats.... Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister....Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living. The inspiration for this novel came from Nicholas Sparks's sister: her life and her courage. From the internationally bestselling author Nicholas Sparks, comes his most moving story yet....

I started this book determined not to like it having seen the movie. It's better, of course. I didn't think it was the greatest love story ever. I think it would be a good vacation read. Light, easy to follow and not crazy long. I'd never read a Nicholas Sparks book before and I'm not dying to pick up another but seeing as it's February it was a nice little love story.

Easy read, but nowhere near as good as the movie and could have captured the reader more.

A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "Be prepared for tears -- lots of tears! In fact, we are warned of this in the prologue. This is a beautiful love story narrated to the reader firsthand through the main character's recollection of events. Landon Carter recounts his senior year of high school in 1958, Beaufort, North Carolina. He tells of life in this small, Southern coastal town and thoughtfully describes the people and their habits. He also shares information about his family life and friends. He carefully set up the year where at 17, he very unexpectedly discovers love with the daughter of the town's Baptist church, Jamie Sullivan. In all respects, it is an unlikely pairing, and it isn't immediate. Despite having known each other all their lives, it is only during their final year at Beaufort High that they discover profound love. A tragic complication arises challenging their lifelong happiness. At the conclusion, Landon Carter, now 57, celebrates the joy of having loved Jamie, and is grateful for his special journey with her, realizing that he is the man he is today because of her. This is a very short book and readers will move through it quickly, but it delivers a poignant message in an extraordinary way."

I have watched the movie more than a dozen times and then i read the book.
I did NOT like the book as well as the movie . Although a good book , Jaime is not a preachers daughter and Landon is not a troubled teen.
