Add a CommentI'll preface this with: I know this is a book about depression, and about a confused teenager. I know that depressed teenagers aren't too likable. Still, I couldn't connect with the narrator, James...where Holden Caulfield of The Catcher in the Rye was lost and confused, James was just belligerent. So, it's not an "easy" read. I still found it interesting, though.
Magnificent exploration of the teenage psyche. I thought this was better written, and better executed, than the Catcher in the Rye. Very funny, often quite moving, this book might be classified as "teen fiction," but like Salinger's book, it speaks to all ages.
