Anti-social teen James is trying to find a place in the world, but his family is pretty self centred and just consider him weird and not that there may be some deep psychological issue at the root of his seeming aloofness and depression. Unfortunately, James is often an unreliable narrator, which leads the reader to question his motives at times (such as his "prank" against his co-worker), but at the end we are rooting for him and hope that he will find some peace in his life.

Magnificent exploration of the teenage psyche. I thought this was better written, and better executed, than the Catcher in the Rye. Very funny, often quite moving, this book might be classified as "teen fiction," but like Salinger's book, it speaks to all ages.
