Enjoyable book. Interesting to think of how life was at that time. Good story, not fast-paced, and the descriptions were beautifully written.

Griet, a pretty Dutch serving girl, is hired as a maid for the painter Vermeer’s family. Before long she falls prey to the lustful attentions of Vermeer’s wealthy patron. When he insists on Vermeer painting Griet’s portrait, she knows that her life will never be the same again. A lovely vignette full of colour and history.

A beautiful story between a maid and Vermeer of how the painting came to be. It's quite easy to read and offers a closure to the mystery of the identity of the girl in the painting.

really beautiful descriptions. It made me want to study art, the author paints such a beautiful portrait through words. The movie was a disappointment, the book was a thousand times better!

A good historical context of the rich versus poor in 17th century Holland. Very short but highly recommended for those art history lovers.

A GREAT read! The film will ruin the story for you so please just stick to the book. I have read it over and over and will continue to do so because I keep finding new little things in the story that I did not notice before. Much like Griet and looking at the paintings and use of color.

Even though I am not a fan of European culture, because the mood can be a little gloomy, but I still give it a thumbs up.
