Sophia Coppola does a nice job with directing this remake and the cast is wonderful but really, no one can top Clint in the original, not even Colin Farrell.

"The Beguiled" is based on the 1966 novel of the same name (originally published as A Painted Devil) by Thomas P. Cullinan. And it's a remake of the 1971 film of the same name by Clint Eastwood. Nothing about this story is a "Grand Slam!…

A remake of the 1971 classic starring Clint Eastwood, that tells the story of an injured Union soldier who finds himself in the care of a tiny school of girls housed in a large southern home during the Civil War. Stars Colin Farrell and…

Visually: sooo dark I had to turn up the brightness on my TV to see anything... Story felt long and slow, thought it was supposed to be a thriller but it's actually more of a drama about self-preservation and isolation and fear. Very…

Can the daughter of Hollywood's most famous hack avoid the same predicament? Not if she hires the wooden/sexless Colin Farrell as her star; not if the dialogue is fit for a Dick & Jane primer; not if most of the scenes are in…

Not worth the time spent watching this terrible movie.

Written and directed by Sofia Coppola in 2017 based on the 1966 novel of the same name by Thomas P. Cullinan, this American Civil-war time drama depicts the incident at the girls school in Virginia. The novel had a black female slave as a…

This film drew me in right away and found it to be a pleasure to watch this remake of the 1971 film Beguiled, based upon the 1966 novel written by Thomas Cullinan. The talent pool works well together with Sophia Coppola's (The Virgin…

I thought it was well done and I enjoyed it. The story was simple and already done several times, but producers seem to like this story. And everyone here does their good job at all they do. But the overall tone does feel a bit Hollywood…

From the opening hackneyed shot - a long alley of ancient oaks bedecked with Spanish moss, with the fog machine puffing out wafts of evening mist - we might suspect there's trouble ahead. And there is. But along the way Sophia Coppola…

I've never seen the original or read the book, but considering the star power of the cast and my general liking of Sofia Coppola's other work, I gave this one a shot. I normally love slow-burn thrillers and gothic atmosphere, but this…

Somewhat boring. Stick with the original, much better.

Not a bad movie, per se, but the original, with Clint Eastwood, has a much more finely honed finesse, revealing the story and characters with greater edge and/or subtlety, and a more threatening sense of danger and suspense.

Seems like people either loved this or hated it. I found it interesting and I kept thinking about it after I watched it. I thought it was beautifully filmed and I loved the setting. I didn't find it boring or slow like some reviewers. I…

I haven't read the story but the movie was well done and the acting was good.

Considering that Nicole Kidman and Sofia Coppola were involved in this film, I'd expect better. That was about two hours of my life I'll never get back. Slow and very forgettable.

I read your comments and watched it anyways, stupid of me. Boring, boring, boring, whoa that turned grim didn't it. If it wasn't for other comments I'd have thought my TV was dying, too. Condolences to the next guy on the waiting list.

I watched for a while but quit because of the slow pace & difficulty seeing & hearing it. The females competing for the attention of the male/soldier, which was an important element in the original movie, was missing. Thus, little sexual…

I have not seen the original so I cannot compare them, nor have I read the book. I thought this film caught the culture of the era and the jealousy elements very well. The understated elegance of the character portrayals was great. For…

I still prefer the original which starred Clint Eastwood and Pamelyn Ferdin. But this was an excellent remake of a classic thriller. It's the end of the Civil War and General Sherman has started his death march in which he burns the…

I waited months to borrow this movie, and I can now say that it was NOT worth the wait! Very disappointed, especially with the ridiculous and unnecessary ending

Big disappointment. The book is much better, ditto the original film. After watching it I felt slightly soiled and sorry for the really good actors who are wasted in this seemingly sordid and pointless film.

This was a very good movie, directed by Sophia Coppola. It was well acted & directed with great casting. The storyline created a building tension which ended with a surprise. Recommend.

I have tried twice to watch this film, but "watch" is the wrong word because you can't see anything! I can't believe this film was released as is. You can't see the actors or the costumes or the sets. The movie is invisible! This is the…
