My kids and I love the You Wouldn't Want To series. If you are unfamiliar with these titles, they mix historical detail with delightful humor and charming cartoon-style illustrations.

This book focuses on Shackleton's ill-fated arctic expedition. His ship got trapped in the ice for months, and then crushed and sunk. His men were able to save from the ship only three lifeboats, some sleds and a handful of provisions. And yet all 28 survived and made it home. Want to find out how? Read this book.
