I was disappointed that the movie focused more on Harrer's escape to Tibet rather than his relationship and influence on the young Dalai Lama. His fellow escapee, Peter Aufschnaiter, was a more empathetic and inquisitive character who gets Harrer out of jambs on several occasions.

5 stars. Based on a true story of Heinrich Harrer and his lifelong friend the (exiled today) Dalai Lama. Looking past the bad accent of Brad Pitt, this was a beautiful movie of the peaceful Tibetans.

Brad Pitt’s accent is awful in this movie, it makes me think of Schwarzenegger. Overall an interesting movie on a young Dalai Lama.

This is a fine movie - one that I remember when it first came to the silver screen. It was a pleasure to watch again and enjoy those moments which I had forgotten. "German" accent aside the acting is close enough to Harrer's recounting in his book 'Seven Years in Tibet.' Naturally there are additional plots in the move but they do not distract too much. For those who want to challenge their mind, there is the autobiography. You will find at least two versions of the book: one with an updated epilogue; the other with excellent images.

Brad Pitt is really unconvincing as an Austrian and I just couldn't care about any of the characters.

I liked this film better than most critics and thought Brad Pitt's character showed some interesting development & growth.

This movie is very timely given the recent opposition from China to our Prime Minister's visit with the Dalai Lama (?sp). Wonderful scenery, fantastic story
