Rated 8/10. Well done.
My only beef with this series is that there is no numbering, so you don't know which order to watch them in.
The Wikipedia entry for this series is of some help.
"The white feather" was a symbol of cowardice. To be presented with one was to be dishonored: you were a chicken. Here a WWII family runs a hotel where people sympathetic to the Nazi cause meet and plan for the day Nazi Germany invades England. One of them gets murdered and Foyle investigates. Excellent acting with excellent role assignment. The only time Foyle seems to enjoy life is when fishing. Foyle sometimes seem a poker player with no expression as he bets against your life that he will solve the crime.
2nd episode of the series. May 1940 - - In each episode the story covers a local crime as well as an aspect of real life in WW2. Whether investigating sabotage, looting, stolen food or fuel supplies, treason, or murder, Foyle and his colleagues must wage their own personal war amidst the tumult of a larger one.
- - Detective Sergeant Paul Milner is adjusting to life as Foyle's assistant after losing his leg at Trondheim. Foyle is asked to interview Edith Johnstone, a girl accused of sabotage near a military camp. It's a hangable offence but Edith seems defiant. A domineering woman called Margaret Ellis runs a local pub, The White Feather. She hosts a social gathering of prominent people who all sympathise with The Friday Clubs anti -war ideals. - As Foyle and Milner unravel the interwoven evils of the The Friday Club, Milner is forced to confront his own attitude and his allegiance to Foyle. The climax brings a tragedy of its own, with the events of Dunkirk and the bravery of those who go to rescue the stranded soldiers. - - This DVD has SDH
I enjoy all the "Foyle's War" episodes. They are well done BBC series. Police detective during - WWII - 40's forensics - so there are many layers.
Excellent acting, well-drawn characters and a fine plot. It's also an interesting time period--early WWII England. This is either the first or second episode (I find conflicting information).
