Mean Girls is a classic chick-flick from the mid-2000s. I watch this movie more often than I would like to admit, however, I have no regrets. While the plot, acting, fashion/style, and overall detail to film are perfect, this movie is a great representation of how you become who you surround yourself with; the main character, Cady Heron, is a sweet and innocent girl who transitions from homeschooling in Africa to attending a high school in the States. As she is new to the community and does not relate to her fellow teenage classmates, she is unaware of what the social norm is and how to ‘fit in’. However, this all changes when she is invited to hang out with the popular girls (AKA ‘The Plastics’), and begins to adjust to their environment. Her personality completely changes, as she follows in the footsteps of Regina George, who, in addition to being the most popular girl in school, is also the most stuck up. I believe that this is an iconic movie, especially for teenage girls, and therefore recommend it to all chick-flick lovers. 5/5 -@roselilly04 of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
This movie is one of my favorite chick-flicks because it always makes me laugh. In the movie, the mean girl posey Regina, Karen and Gretchen show a controlling attitude towards the new exchange student. My main takeaway from this movie is that being mean does not bring happiness to someone's life. For example, being a “plastic” may make you popular, but it’s also going to make people perceive you as a mean, and fake person. The moral of the story is to be yourself as well as nice. Mean girls can be rude but it’s good to ignore them and not let them control you. This teaches teen girls that it is ok not be the most popular girl in school. I rate this movie a 5/5-star rating because it will never get old, and its message is so powerful that it inspires me and many other girls who are struggling with being “cool” or in other words “popular” to simply be themselves.

This comedy is such an amazing film! I’ve watched it multiple times and I can say it’s still as amazing as the first time I watched it. It’s based in a high school where everyone is divided into groups like the jocks and the plastics. A new girl comes to the school and without even noticing, is put into a group and creates a fight between friends. One of the biggest lessons that Mean Girls taught people is that it’s better to be positive and spread kindness rather than excluding and making people feel bad. If you’re looking for a funny movie to watch with friends or family, I recommend Mean Girls. 4/5

Cady Heron attends a public high school after being homeschooled her whole life in Africa. She befriends Janis and Damian who educate her about the school’s cliques, most importantly about the Plastics. The Plastics is the most popular clique in the school and Cady is warned to not interact with them. One day, the queen bee of the Plastics, Regina George, invites Cady to sit with the Plastics and Cady informs Janis and Damian and they tell Cady to spy on the Plastics. Things begin to get personal when Cady develops feelings for Regina’s ex, Aaron Samuels and Regina takes him back after learning about her interest in Aaron. Mean Girls is personally one of my favourite movies because there are so many iconic quotes from the movie. My favourite quote from the movie is when Cady says this to Aaron: “On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was. It’s October 3rd”. I would give the movie a 5/5 rating.

I think we have progressed enough as a society for me to say this; Mean Girls is one of the best comedies of all time. The social critiques still hold up, and it's truly amusing to see how many teen comedies in recent years have tried to replicate Fey's writing style here.

A great conversation starter for older tweens and teens, plus it’s totally entertaining and hilarious.

This was clearly girls movie and one most guys would call a chick flick. Girl friend found some humor in it and was encourging me to keep watching this worthless flick, so I did. To me this was a strong two on the rating scale. However it is obvious to me by the other high ratings and strong comments I just did not get it, went right over my head. Most men will avoid, however certain types may find it entertaining. So give it a try what have you to loose other than a couple hours.

There's something about this movie that I can't pull myself away from. It's not great and it comes across as a really lame film about girls getting revenge on each other. It's totally far-fetched and borderline ridiculous. But I like it. There are some very funny moments and it's not loaded down with sex and swearing. Lindsay Lohan is actually really good in this, as are the other girls. The students actually look like high school students, which is rare these days, when thirty-year olds are passed off as high schoolers. I guess you could call this a guilty pleasure of mine, because I find myself watching it whenever it comes on TV. Definitely a good movie to watch if you are a fan of Lindsay Lohan. Also stars Tina Fey and Tim Meadows.

Lindsey Lohan at her former balanced self (before the drugs, family opera, etc.) does a good job playing a home-schooled geek dropped into a vicious clique of hot girls. She turns her back on the offbeat artists and sharpens her own claws as the popular girls battle for hot supremacy in the narrow confines of high school. Dismaying to hear the self-internalized misogyny as the girls name call each other with "slut" and "whore". Tina Fey plays peacemaker in a little too glib of an ending.

She doesn't even go here!

This Tina Fey classic is still absolute gold! Revisit this one any time you need a good, solid laugh.

VERY GOOD 2004 comedic plus glimpse into contemporary high school drama. No doubt high schoolers interact quite a bit different post 2000 than we did half a century before and it made for an interesting view for older me.

Never saw when it originally came out but a lot better than I thought would be! Typical ehh high school plot, but great casting, dialogue, cut/imaginative scenes (not sure what that style is called but i.e. the school being like the African range)
