One of the most forgettable detective shows you'll ever see. I know, because this time around, I instantly remembered Henry Cavill in his striped schoolboy blazer, and for the rest I enjoyed watching again, with no sense of knowing what would happen next, except some generic British detecting. Great to watch on a sick day. No real resemblance to the novels, which are much better than this.

Enjoyed each disc/episode. Refreshing. British television is a nice break from the perfection Hollywood demands - actors & actresses are normal everday people.

This DVD has the 1st 4 episodes of the series. 1 -Well schooled in murder. 2 -Payment in blood. 3 - For the sake of Elena. 4 -Missing Joseph. - -These stories introduce both 'Tommy' Lynley, an actual Earl who has to work for his living in the police, and Barbara Havers, who he keeps on as his Sergeant as he admires her deductive powers. Havers is very much a working class woman and is sometimes extremely caustic about Lynley's status. - Lynley always remains the suave, smooth gentleman. They don't always agree - yet work well together. An excellent series and very true to life .
