Like the more modern version with (gorgeous!) Ursula Anderss, this has been so adulterated from the original book that you won't recognize much.

Worth seeing despite weaknesses. Nightmarish rites for human sacrifice.

The book is a not-too-deep action story, but it didn't really deserve this rather awful treatment :-)

While not amelorating the racism and sexism of the H. Rider Haggard novel this 1935 movie is a great follow up for those who enjoy the over-the-top cheesy large scale "native ritual" sequences in the original King Kong film (from the same production team).

The movie takes some pretty broad liberties with the story line -- She's remote kingdom is moved from Africa to the Russian artic for some reason.

The art deco sets and the truly bizare human sacrifice dance number (with Busby Berkeley echos) are worth sitting through the wooden acting and plodding exposition.

An interesting side note is that Helen Gahagan's She is supposed to have inspired the image of the wicked queen in Disney's 1937 Snow White.
