Cumberbatch suffers from the "stone face" syndrome. Botox school of acting. The plot is rather overdone, cliche scenes, much ado about very little. The final scene finishes without answers. Story jumps from scene to scene and you have to create your own story to fill the gaps.
This series may deserve the praise it gets for cast and production, but it lost me very early on when Stephen and his brother's widow meet and almost instantly have sex. Not only was it disrespectful to the deceased, but one couldn't help wondering what he found so irresistible about her. (One also wonders how he managed to arrange a great hair stylist for himself while her hair looks as if it had been gnawed away by rodents.)
Enjoyed the plot, twists, cunning & scary female parts played well - of course, Geraldine James is so diverse. B. Cumberbatch is generally excellent, I just have a hard time watching him for any time length & nearly every scene, but he's maturing. Robert Carlyle is gritty in most roles, he's so great in The Full Monty.
Excellent drama: compelling, timely, provocative and bone-chilling. The acting is superb, especially Robert Carlyle. Gets a little messy towards the end but does not detract from the story.
T.I.A. is not fiction. And we hear the same old BS from the warmongering politicians about "terrorists." And the female politicians here are as cold-blooded and murderous as any man. Art imitates life.
Best line: "It should be a human right to be anonymous...."
While I love most British shows, this one was a bit hard to follow, i.e. who was the good or bad guy..confusing in parts.
I'm not sure why in the ending the character with the heavy Scottish brogue killed the brother???

A very good British mini-series, part of "Masterpiece Contemporary(Theatre)". Set in the near future, a brother returns to England and gets involved in a gov't plan to introduce a universal ID card but turns out to be much more subversive than that. There are large echoes of 1984 and "big brother". Good plot, good action, good acting and a solid story.
If you ever thought you'd enjoy a kinda slow-paced, totalitarian-themed soap opera set in Britain's near future, this is the series for you!
Gripping, entertaining, intelligent. The final plot twist left me slightly in the dark; I can guess at the motivation behind the final "extermination", but I'm not certain that I have it right. Despite my mild frustration on this score, I'd definitely recommend the series. If you weren't paranoid before about the clash between state security imperatives and individual privacy rights, you will be after you've taken in this version of a brave new world. Some suspension of disbelief may be required with respect to the improbably gifted mathematician.
