America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst the destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world that is utterly devastated.

I like McCarthy's brutal, blunt storytelling. It's kind of unique. This story is harsh, brutal, believable.

The best book I've listened to in a long time, this follows a father and son struggling to survive in a devastated, ruined world. The great narrator for the audiobook version makes the story even more intense. Not a happy romp in the park by any means, but for those who enjoy apocalyptic/dystopian themes it is one of the best examples I know of. I haven't finished it yet, but it's still a solid 5 stars for me.

My brother recommended this book to me... it had that constant feeling of saddness and deprivation. However, you would expect that from a book about life after the world crumbles. Very realistic to me, for how I feel life would be in those circumstances.
