After Tomorrow -- Wow! This little gem just blew me away. This is a great film from Frank Borzage whose films The Mortal Storm, A farewell to Arms, and Strange Cargo I thought were great. “After Tomorrow” was made during the pre-code years, so Borzage was able to explore adult relationships before the Hays Code would come along to force directors to cut out whatever they the censors did not like - even if it meant weakening films that probed serious aspects of the human condition. ---Young America - This is another Borzage gem - It deals with Ralph Bellamy as a judge attempting to decide juvenile court cases in a manner that would not destroy their lives. I would rate this second film as very good, way better than I would hope picking it blind off the shelf. Spencer Tracey in an early film plays a mean cynical guy, which is probably atypical or him.
