The bestselling "offbeat, down-to- earth love story"( The Observer , London)- now available in the United States

An international sensation, this addictively readable tale asks the question: Why is it so impossible to get a relationship between two middle-aged misfits to work? The answer lies in the story of Shrimp, a young widowed librarian with a sharp intellect and a home so tidy that her jam jars are in alphabetical order; Benny, a gentle, overworked milk farmer who fears becoming the village's Old Bachelor; and an unlikely love that should not be as complicated as it seems. Reminiscent of the works of Carol Shields, this quirky, humorous, beautifully told novel breathes new life into the age-old conundrum that is love.

Two middle-aged "misfits" find love bewilderingly complicated.

Funny! Benny and Shrimp fit together like "chalk and cheese" as Benny's parents would have said. Both lonely, meeting on a bench in a cemetery, both wildly attracted to each other--an orderly librarian and a muscular farmer. He regards a woman as an extension of his farm; she's never made meatballs in her life!
Not an expected ending either! A short and exciting read.

Two star-crossed people with biological clocks running?one a young widow and the other a farmer who's recently lost his mother?meet as they tend the graves of their loved ones. While Benny and Desiree [Shrimp] find their relationship satisfying on a physical level, only time will tell if this very different couple will find common ground.

This is a touching, funny book. You'll have so much sympathy for these lonely people and hope things work out. [Mazetti says she's written a sequel. Even she wanted to know. Hope the success of this book leads the sequel into English translation, too.]
