A terrific book; well organized; excellently read. From the end of the middle ages to the middle of the sixteenth century - the social, political, economic, and relevant scientific contexts are thoughtfully wound into an integrated narrative. The first half is especially good (it deals with events up to the late 1400s). There are about two discs devoted to Columbus alone. Many other travellers and writers of the age are used to give contending views, revealing the diversity of thought of the Age of Discovery.
