Some of Chris Bohjalian's books really speak to me and others I just can't connect with. This is one of the one's I couldn't connect with.

I've read three of his books now, and am looking forward to working my way through the rest. Interesting themes.

"Sandcastle Girls" got me reading Bohjalian again--yay! This was a "can't put it down" novel! very suspenseful in plot and characters. Certainly, the pastor was very the end his personality comes together. I was not sure about the woman who believed in angels (not thinking of her name now) but she did perform excellent function in the novel. The ending was so fabulous it was jaw dropping!

Just like Judypoo I would say the end was easy to figure out. Good book nevertheless, my first by this author. I'll try another. Only thing I found weird was how he kept telling what would happen in the future as he went along. It would say: two weeks later they would see... etc. Sort of like turning ahead a few pages for a sneak peek at what was coming.

Good, but predictable. Bohjalian has a particular writing style that I enjoy, but his twists are becoming easier to anticipate, much like Jodi Picolt. This was an enjoyable read, but not one of his best.

Well written as are all of Bohjalian's novels, but nothing really interesting here. The characters seem out of sync, the ending not much of a surprise.

Is this really the same author who wrote “Midwives”, “The Double Bind”, and “Skeletons at the Feast?” You wouldn’t know it by reading “Secrets of Eden.” I was incredibly disappointed with this latest book. Poorly written, poorly developed characters and a skinny plot, at best. I have followed Chris Bohjalian avidly for quite some time and I must say, this book does not hold a candle to any of his previous works.

Secrets of Eden
Chris Bohjalian

Family violence, alcohol, religious crisis, friendship, guilt, compassion are some of the themes touched in this novel by Bohjalian. Enjoyable reading but the characters may lack certain authenticity.
