This is an interesting tour through the history of sex research, with the focus being on the last 70 years or so. I was unaware that most early sex research was conducted furtively because of societal taboos and legal issues. I learned a lot and had some things confirmed that I long suspected. It was all good stuff and it helped that the author kept her occasionally corny humor somewhat in check.

I am of two minds on this book. It is a highly accessible look at the science of sex, and Roach makes deliberate use of humour to cut through the awkwardness that many people feel around this topic. However, that same humour also occasionally reinforces the taboos that Roach is gamely trying to dispell, and sometimes veers into outright condescension toward her audience.

True to form, Mary Roach provides a curious and humorous survey of research on her selected topic, which in this case is sex. The audiobook had me giggling during my normally tense morning commute. Laughing and learning, doesn't get much better than that!

Very interesting journey through the various research and researchers in sex. Interesting story of Roach and her husband's MRI. Good read.
