George Washington, was a social climber, land-hungry Virginia surveyor, and military officer who often blamed others for his own errors. He gradually built a reputation as a gentleman by educating himself in the classics and sciences, entering politics, and marrying one of the wealthiest women in Virginia. The battle of Trenton changed everything with a victory both for America and Washington himself. His skill and bravery transformed Washington into the very symbol of the Revolutionary War.

A sympathetic look at Washington's weaknesses and how his experience as a military leader made him grow up. Interesting because it's not the usual hero worship. Nice use of several historians as commentators (inc. a proud CSA member with his flag suspenders) and generally well-produced, though you can tell the historical re-enactments were donated by generous volunteers and not big budget. If you're looking for another facet to Washington, I think this is a quick, enjoyable viewpoint.

Disappointed? How could be anyone be disappointed with this unless they were seeking hagiography?
This was an insightful portrayal of GW, both good and bad. His bravery was highlighted, as was his less than top-notch generalship. What I found most interesting was the account of his early years, the death of his father, his desire for wealth and status in the English system. This showed what to admire in GW -- in fact, it focuses on his most singular accomplishment: refusing to overthrow the US government.
If you want a balanced portrayal of GW, this would be a good choice.

I was very disappointed with this program. I was hoping for a respectful summary of the man's life (including his personal bravery and many accomplishments), but the producers seemed determined to convince the viewer that there is not much to admire in George Washington"s life and character.

However the photography work is very good.
