Haunting and exciting. Beautifully written. I couldn't stop listening to this, and I cannot WAIT for the author to release her second novel!

This book is reading outside the box for me. It was recommended by a friend, so I gave it a try. I liked the story line and the characters more than I expected. The ending, however, was disappointing for me. I did not see the "passing on" of the circus to a new lovable person as a "gift". Mild recommendation. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Wonderful audio book reading by Jim Dale. His ability is perfect for the many unusual characters and atmospheric settings. Be careful listening to it while driving; it can hypnotize you!

The book itself is a wonderfully written fantasy about a circus that is only open at night and about the magical contest taking place between two users of magic -- who don't even know what the contest is. Some of the chapters have a Ray Bradbury feel.

You know, this would have been good if the book actually got to the point a lot earlier! Jeezzz!! Im over it! I am very grateful that I was able to get this from the library so I didn't waste my money. Just my opinion. There are a lot of people out there who loved it but it just didn't work for me. I was bored to death!

A delightfully woven fantastic tale.

This book is total escapism, and the audio version is well narrated by a fellow with a mellow voice and an ability to carry off the different characters distinctly without being overwraught. I told my coworkers that if Harry Potter and Robert Goolrick's *The Good Wife* had a magical book baby for adults, this would be it. Atmospheric, dramatic and richly imagined, this book is the perfect go-to for anyone who needs a break from the news. Honestly, I could roll in it, it's so good. Pure commute candy.

Excellent, excellent book. Should be made into a movie. Just wonderful - a great audiobook too.

The rich and moody description in this story about a magical circus drew me in. I enjoyed the characters and their imaginative love story very much. It's one of the few audio books I've felt compelled to listen to again and I even purchased the print version.

Terribly wonderful! A Harry Potter for gown-ups without the dark side. Any darkness flits by and only adds to the brilliant storytelling! The audio is such a pleasure! For teens too!

This is an epic tale of rivalry and love, set in a strangely wonderful circus that only opens at night. Two magicians are pitted against each other in childhood, and the development of their relationship fills the reader with suspense and longing. The narration by Jim Dale is reminiscent of Harry Potter (of course!) and fans of HP may find a spark in this as well.
