Living as we do, taking electricity, running water, buying food in grocery stores, having a car, makes reading this book so much more meaningful. This novel takes place starting in 1920 rural Ireland where most people are living hand to mouth. A girl gets a chance to go to New York and escape non-loving parents, regimented lifestyle, to help her new husband get an operation that will hopefully allow him to walk again- what all can happen both to those left behind and to the adventuress?
I could hardly put the book down, highly recommend
