The variability in weather and climate can have a tremendous impact, making the science of forecasting incredibly important. Weather and climate are related, but individually they do not mean quite the same thing. The main difference involves time--weather refers to the present state or to conditions that may evolve in the coming days or weeks, whereas climate refers to long-term behavior.
Atmospheric phenomena affect everyone--severe storms pop up from time to time, and the interactions governing the climate form a network that has worldwide influence. These topics are complicated and merit a great deal of research, and each chapter of this book explores one of these frontiers. Weather and Climate explores the scientists who delve into frontiers of weather and climate science--and quite often run into variable and puzzling phenomena. Featuring information published in reports or presented at conferences, this guide will make a great addition to classroom libraries.
Chapters include:
Paleoclimatology--Evolution of Earth's Climate Polar Climate--A Sensitive Indicator of Change Solar Variation and Earth's Climate Tornado Formation Hurricane Forecasting Intentional Weather Modification.
