Romia Smith is a misunderstood cop. Tall, beautiful, and lethal, her martial arts skills are off the board. During an after-hours gathering with her fellow law enforcement officers, she is accosted by a stranger who, within moments, ends up dead-- apparently shot with her service revolver. Romia has an alibi, but it's one that is less believable than the lie she's being framed with-- murder! In her quest to prove her innocence, Romia finds herself stepping further and further out of line with the law and into a world she never would have believe existed-- into a past she didn't know she had. The Phoenix is a secret agency consisting of international spies working both sides of right and wrong. Romia becomes the target in a deadly chase to the top of the Phoenix's nest. It will take everything she ever knew to find out what everyone thinks she already knows--P. [4] of cover.

Acceptance is a powerful pull. Maxwell accepted me for who I am and what I am. For that I am to be forever grateful to him. But that gratitude has separated itself from trust...

I found this book to be excellent. Romia Smith was a police officer who was good at her job. She was also a martial arts expert. One night she found herself in a physical altercation with someone she didn't know and couldn't see too well, then found out she was being accused of killing a different man that same night while the altercation was taking place. The book goes back and forth over a span of maybe 30 years and there are a lot of things you find out during those memorial times. It goes to show that things are not always what they seem
