A gripping novel with well developed characters and provides a realistic insight into 1st world poverty and however I found the mother's life decision to be a bit unbelievable/a sensationalism bend. If you liked " Room", this novel is similar.

I do not recommend this book. I struggled through the first 100 pages or so, but I read from other readers that the back half is much better than than the first. Not in my opinion.
Libby, the main character, has a chip on her shoulder throughout the entire book. She does nothing to better herself and her situation, leeching off of others and stealing her way through existence. Lazy and unmotivated!
The story begins with the gruesome murders of her family. Where do you go with that? Maybe the author could have presented a character who tries to change her situation and counteract the violence with something good, but instead, the book just goes farther into darkness and the pitiful life Libby lives.
Way too dark and depressing for my tastes!

By far her best book! Way better than Gone Girl!

I'm a Gillian Flynn fan (Gone Girl I LOVED!) , but I really didn't like this book. It was too creepy and made my stomach flip too many times. I never 'give up' once I start reading a book, though, and skimmed a lot of it until the end. I'm very disappointed in it.

Libby Day has lived most of her miserable life with the knowledge that her teenage brother Ben murdered her mother and two sisters in their home when she was seven years old. Now in her early thirties -- unemployed, unfocused and nearly penniless -- she is contacted by a group of true crime enthusiasts who plant a seed of suspicion that cause her to doubt her memories of that tragic night and spark a desire to uncover the truth.

I think I actually enjoyed this more than two of Flynn's other works, 'Gone Girl' and 'Sharp Objects.' Though a bit violently graphic, it was a terrific vacation read.

Let's be honest: Gillian Flynn has a very dark side. But if you like to read about horrible people doing horrible things, Gillian Flynn could be your new best friend. In this engaging mystery novel, a seven year old girl named Libby Day narrowly escapes death one night when her freakish Satan-worshiping brother massacres her entire family. Thirty years later, while her brother rots in jail, an emotionally damaged Libby struggles through her miserable adult life. The real mystery begins when Libby is forced to confront her own sketchy memories about what happened on that dark bloody night so many years ago.

I read this after Gone Girl and I loved it. Completely different mystery but Flynn, once again shows how masterful she is at creating suspense and giving us description and details that make us feel that we are right next to the characters.

I felt that this book was a little slow at times, but still very good. It kept me thinking "Did he do it?." I think I will watch the movie as well and compare which is better.
