I must agree with the previous comments. Although this is the first in this series I have watched and was a bit slow in embracing the characters, I found myself enchanted by the outward arrogance and presence of command of doc martin. He's a bit flawed, but usually right about his medical expertise....in a rather hilarious manner.

• Doc Martin DVD ([Series 5.] Discs 1 & 2) By now, you’ve become quite familiar with this jewel of a series: a setting somewhere along the coast of Cornwall; characters like Mister Large the plumber; and Louisa, Doc Martin’s love. We are now into the fifth season of the series and Louisa and the Doc now have a child to show for their efforts. Louisa’s hippie mother makes an appearance and (gasp!) Doc & Louisa’s child is kidnapped. That should be enough to propel anyone through season five. As always: delightful and good viewing. Just one question: is this series a drama or a comedy?

great cast; Martin Clunes is a master of expression and command of brevity in talking but communicates in volumes
A series a family can watch together

I live for Doc Martin. American television is so banal by comparison. I never laugh out loud, but with Doc Martin it's constant. As a returning a guest just down the coast on the "Cornish Riviera" I savor the scenery, script, eccentricities, and narrow charming streets that so entrance me. Doc Martin is superb!!!!

There is absolutely no way that the American net works can come close to replicating the Doc Martin series. Those same net works have tried many times to adapt British comedy/drama and they have failed miserably. My suggestion: Don't even think about it.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Outstanding cast, setting, writing, directing, etc. I did miss Pauline and Aunt Joan a little bit... Morwenna and Aunt Ruth were okay, I suppose... I too, am greatly looking forward to another season. (Jeez, I sound like a soap opera junkie) FIVE STARS.

Bert Large (to his son, Al): "When you've been around as long as I have, you come to know a thing or two about business. Now, every problem... has a solution. ...And vice versa." (walks away, with Al dumbfounded)

Louisa Glasson: "...I suppose it does make sense for us to stay together for the little time that we've still got..." Dr. Martin Ellingham: "Well, if you want to prolong that time then you could always come with me..." Louisa Glasson: "Well, yeah, but there's my job..." Dr. Martin Ellingham: "They have schools in London. Small schools, for children every bit as dim as the ones your used to."
