These stories will delight any animal lover. I found the book to be fun-loving, clever, and bright. I loved the educational component associated with the story and the diversity that was depicted through the presented relationships. I loved that Lulu was of ethnic origin. I thought this served as such a positive and had the potential to open up a huge door in terms of possibilities for children who quite often don't hear of minorities working with or caring for animals. While it is never mentioned in the stories, the wonderful illustrations on every page show that Lulu and her family are black, as are some of the kids in her class. This incidental diversity is a fluid part of the story, fitting right in with all the other small details that make the Lulu series fun, warm, engaging books to read. 5/5. @TheBookWorm of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board.

Lulu is "famous for loving animals"--all the way down to spiders. So when her 3rd grade class witnesses, on a field trip, two large dogs ruin a nest of duck eggs and Lulu finds that one egg has survived, what can she do but tuck it inside her sweater and hope it doesn't hatch before the end of the school day? A short, Ramona-like book about having a well-intentioned secret, with a happy ending.
