Excellent plot line, EXCEPT the ending. Author doesn't explain how the wife conveniently goes from telling her husband "it's over," "I want a divorce," to magically showing up just in time to foil the bad guy. It's as if the wife completely forgets that she kicked her husband out. Author also never explains why mother & son even decided to show up at the bad guy's in the first place.

Far too pat an ending, far too quickly, without even attempting to tie up loose ends. Disappointment from a usually good author.

If the book kept to its title, trying to keep quiet about a life changing event, it would have kept my interest. However, convenient plot contrivances (of the TV movie variety) ruined this book for me.

Didn't take long to figure out someone else killed the girl. So many lies, so much deceit. Did not care much for this book.

This books makes you wonder how far would you go to protect your child. What would you do in a situation that the Buckman's faced??

Not exactly my cup of tea being All American teenage and parental angst with the team sports thrown in but... the story-line was well sustained and it would likely make a good movie of that genre.

Great read! At first, it seemed like maybe I had read this book before but I knew I hadn't. There are some interesting twists to this one.

What a powerful novel. I was immersed in the lives of Jake, his wife Pam, and their son, Ryan from page 1 and stayed tuned till the very end.
Is Pam a judge first or a mother? Is Jake a good father or just a provider? Is Ryan an achiever or a normal teenager who messes up? These and other questions keep us embroiled in the story which starts with a disastrous momentary lapse in decision making. Should the family "Keep Quiet?" or should they not? What would I do?
Rather than becoming a plot buster let me just say that Lisa Scottoline took the only way out of the situation and so it was somewhat expected; but better a tearjerker throughout than a tearjerker at the end. A definite must read.

Very good book. Really shows how something you try to hide can get so out of hand.

When I first started this book, it upset me and wasn't sure I could finish it. But I did and was thankful because it ended well. This author writes amazing stories! Please read this book!
