Bolz-Weber reclaims the term "pastrix," used by some Christians who refuse to recognize female pastors. Heavily tattooed and loud-mouthed, a former stand-up comic, Bolz-Weber sure as hell didn't consider herself to be religious leader material-- until the day she ended up leading a friend's funeral, surrounded by fellow alcoholics, depressives, and cynics. She realized: these were her people. Maybe she was meant to be their pastor.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Reinforces my belief that God meets us and loves us wherever we are. This is not a book for those who aren't open to a God who loves everyone and who can't handle some profanity as a form of self expression. I was uplifted by this read.

I read Accidental Saints first and loved it, so then I read the author's earlier memoir. I enjoyed them both very much, though perhaps enjoyed Accidental Saints a bit more. The author is blunt and direct and honest, which I greatly appreciate. Nadia Bolz-Weber has a unique voice and is well worth hearing/reading, whether you are religious or not.

"Pastrix: the cranky, beautiful faith of a sinner and Saint" by Nadia Bolz-Weber had bits I really liked but, as a memoir, had bits I wasn't so fond. Narcissism is the darkness of memoirs. Too often the spotlight is centred on Bolz-Weber when it could have been fruitfully turned on others. I wish I could see Bolz-Weber through the eyes of others. Instead, this is Bolz-Weber's story as told by Bolz-Weber. I wished for more.
