Tom Putnam is everyone's idea of a nice man. A tenured professor at a small, southern woman's college, he's both professionally stuck and hopelessly married. Rose Callahan has never stayed anywhere long enough to have what she considers a truly permanent mailing address. When Rose is hired to work at the college's bookstore, it indirectly upsets the precarious balance of Tom's life; as well as the lives of a constellation of flawed and endearing college characters.

Agnes was the most believable of the characters in this book, the others, not so much. I rolled my eyes several times while listening.
