A sharp and funny comedy about a group of African-American students as they navigate campus life and racial boundaries at a predominately white college. A sly, provocative satire about being a black face in a white place.

I wanted to like this movie more, but I just thought it was ok. Not a must watch. I like Tessa Thompson and Tyler James Williams as actors, but this movie needed more punch.

This film wants to be witty, insightful and strong social commentary. It isn't...

I guess I have a hard time getting into satire but I think I eventually got to the idea. Just a different type of movie.

Timely topic and worth watching, though I wished I had read the book first for a better understanding of the many characters who populated the film. Try this and then check out more college-themed movies suggested in this list.

This is a brilliant, complex, compassionate movie. Like an Altman film, no one will "get it" on a single viewing. I suggest watching it at least three times. In a row. Besides being jam-packed with quick-paced, multi-valenced dialogue, Dear White People blurs the lines between race, gender, sexual identity and what you think you know about other people.

I am a very old white person. Before I saw it, I read that it was a satire. It was hard for me to relate to the movie's youth culture, but I did get that it was a satire. It made fun of black students acting like the stereotype of white students by having white students act like the stereotype of black students. For me it was like traveling to a foreign country-invigorating but you're glad to get back home

It's not a great movie but I think that it could be a good idea to watch it anyway. It's good to see life from another person's perspective and understand the challenges they face.

I tried to get into it . . .the characters are lame, there is no story, It seems like a well funded government high school film project - I give this 0 stars.

Sam White: Dear white people, the minimum requirement of black friends needed to not seem racist has just been raised to two. Sorry, but your weed man, Tyrone, does not count.

Tons of good quotes in IMDb:

Sam White: Dear white people, the minimum requirement of black friends needed to not seem racist has just been raised to two. Sorry, but your weed man, Tyrone, does not count.

Sam White: Dear white people, this just in: Dating a black person to piss off your parents is a form of racism.

Dean Fairbanks: Your show is racist.
Sam White: Black people can't be racist. Prejudice, yes, but not racist. Racism describes a system of disadvantage based on race. Black people can't be racist since we don't stand to benefit from such a system.
