Amazing story. Careful with the details, without overwhelming us, the author opens a window in time and let us see the beauty of Istanbul, while celebrating Friendship and Life. Amazing writer.

A fascinating story of Turkish culture in the time of Suleiman. Very well written, a good storyline, and historically enlightening.

Although at times a little hard to get through, it is a wonderful book. Stick with it. It's worth it.

This is a wonderful book. Elif Shafak has captured the essance of what life in the court of the Sultan of the Ottoman Turks of the 15th century when it was at its epoch. Its also a love story about young Indian boy his elephant and an elusive princess. Set in the era when a number of the great buildings and mosques of Instanbul were designed and built the story will draw you in to its intrigues and a time of wonder
