"While the rest of her classmates were making pastries in cooking classes, Mary Nohl was making art--anything she fancied out of anything she could find. Inspiration struck Mary even when she wasn't looking for it. Mary used common objects to make uncommon art. And one day, her garden was a gallery"

Based on the life of artist Mary Nohl, enter the imaginative world of this artist! I love biographies in the childrens' section.

A great children's non fiction picture book about the Wisconsin version of S. P. Dinsmoor (the folk artist responsible for The Garden of Eden, in Lucas, KS). Nohl turned her house, located just outside of Milwaukee, into an art project, creating sculptures out of driftwood, concrete, wood, and wire, and this book tells her story. A great one for kids who love to make stuff out of other stuff, and adults who, like me, had never heard of Mary Nohl, but have often threatened to turn our homes and yards into a roadside curiosities.
