I love the Victorian gothic style of this movie. It is not your typical ghost story. I love re-watching this movie. Tom Hiddleston is as gorgeous as ever.

I found this to be a well crafted and suspenseful film, with brooding images in contrast to bright colours. I watched this film because of it being a Guillermo del Toro creation. Good cast and although the story has been told before, this was a nice interpretation.
The bonus features a few minutes of deleted scenes, and about 14 minutes of behind the scenes of the house and times of the 1901 Boston period that it was set in.

Amazing, it just. Kept. Getting. Worse. The credits were better than the movie. I tried to give it a chance even though it didn't seem to be my thing, and I regret it. Even Thomas Hiddleston cannot make me enjoy a stupid horror movie (butt nice try).

Some fantastic visuals, but a sleep fest, overall.

I admit that I know many Gothic Romances. This is definitely an attempt to bring back this sort of bygone experience of the modern age by bringing it to Industrial Revolution America. This isn't exactly the best period piece, but it certainly qualifies as a Gothic Romance. As someone who studies this, I am too critical of the details in this story. However, the movie is quite good in its ability to use the supernatural. As a visual piece, it's amazing. As a story, it's okay. Very Victorian-ish though I was hoping for more 18th century terrorist novel writing type stuff.

A solid return to gothic ghost stories, with the innocent young girl swept up by the rich handsome nobleman and whisked off to his creepy ancestral home. The cinematography, sets, and special effects made for a visually stunning movie, with solid performances from all the actors, but especially Wasikowska, Hiddleston, Chastain, and Beaver.

The movie isn't terribly scary, and is on a whole, rather predictable, but for those who enjoy gothic ghost stories, this film is a welcome addition.

Jim Beaver, who plays Bobby on the TV show Supernatural, is a treat in this really gorgeous film. If you like gothic novels like The Woman in White or The Romance of the Forest or Uncle Silas, you'll enjoy this. If you're expecting another Pan's Labyrinth, you'll be disappointed.

There's no suspense at all in this movie. You pretty much know everything that's happening. And obvious CG ghosts are not scary at all. They're cool looking, but the CG is so obvious.

Tons of quotes in IMDb. Here are a few:

Edith Cushing: You're monsters. Both of you!
Lucille Sharpe: Funny. That's the last thing Mother said, too.
===
Edith Cushing: Ghosts are real, this much I know. There are things that tie them to a place, very much like they do to us. Some remain tethered to a patch of land, a time and date, the spilling of blood, a terrible crime... There are others, others that hold onto an emotion, a drive, loss, revenge, or love. Those, they never go away.
===
Thomas Sharpe: A house as old as this one becomes, in time, a living thing. It starts holding onto things... keeping them alive when they shouldn't be. Some of them are good; some of them bad... Some should never be spoken about again.
