I love this series of books by McCall Smith. Bertie finally has his 7th birthday! Fun easy enlightening reading

Which seems to be about how much better Bertie's life is now that his mother's been banished to the netherworld of desert and sand - which she's a fan of apparently.

Charming, as always.
Bertie is finally 7 and his mother has conveniently disappeared! I cheered!!
Very interested to know what happens with Antonia's visit - that is left unfinished. Bruce made one slight appearance and we learn he is dating a Danish au pair much later on, but I was surprised that he remained in the background. Something must be coming soon on him. And can't wait to learn more about Pat Macgregor.

This is my favorite series by Alexander McCall Smith, whose insights into behavior and character remind me of a modern day Jane Austen. Spending time with these characters is like taking a vacation in Scotland.

The latest in McCall-Smith's 44 Scotland Street series. I love Bertie, who is very wise and observant but still child-like.

Bertie finally turns 7, but it's still a long way to 18. Follow him and the continuing adventures of the other charming Scotland Street characters. This book has an air of finality. I hope it's not the end of this perfectly marvelous series.
