A good western directed by a B director and played by B actors. The only actor I knew by name was MacDonald Carey who was a major actor in Hitchcock’s masterpiece Shadow of a Doubt. This film seemed a little short to encompass all the religious stuff about crime, lust, bravery, faith, doubt, redemption, etc, but the action in the last half was quite good (but not all that realistic, at times). I suspect the director was testing the boundaries of the censors. pointed out that the struggle to control the wild horse may be a metaphor for expelling the devil from the soul of the stranger. The director having made 20 films in 3 years perhaps was looking to do something new.
