Europe, 1916: Baron Manfred von Richthofen is a crack pilot of the German aerial combat forces, a legend in his own time, a hero at home, and a man both feared and respected by the enemy. Von Richthofen and his fellow officers see their duels in the sky as tactical, almost sportsmanlike challenges. But when he falls in love with Kate, she opens his eyes to the fact that there is more to war than dogfights and he becomes aware of his role in the propaganda machine and senseless war.

I enjoyed the soundtrack. That was definitely the best part of the movie. I found it almost impossible to follow. If I didn't know as much about WWI as I do, it would have been impossible to follow. It did succeed in making the Baron a person rather than somebody we know about mostly from the Peanuts cartoons.

Looked like videogame w/looks like toy airplanes.

This is a really rotten production, like a disjointed series of poorly executed vignettes by a historically and technically challenged amateur who doesn't know how to tell a good story. The acting is terrible. For a superior movie in the same genre, check out ACES HIGH starring Malcolm McDowell, Christopher Plummer and Simon Ward.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance.

Fairly entertaining. There could have been more dogfights in the movie.

Uninspiring account on the Red Baron's triumphs during WWI, unfortunately scenes were like props in front of a blue screen in those aerial fights ...

However, the rest of the story was engaging about the horrific casualty of war and the love journey between Baron and a beautiful nurse.

Matthias Schweighöfer creates a wonderfully young, dashing, desirable version of a romantic figure, set against an effectively understated backdrop of the grim realities of war. Much of Schweighöfer's best acting is wordless. Wonderful period planes, technology, & dogfight sequences created in CGI.
