Kevin Harrington (SeaChange, Underbelly) stars as '80s cult hero Cliff Young - an ordinary man who does an extraordinary thing. Entering the inaugural Sydney to Melbourne Ultra Marathon, with a rag-tag bunch of supporters by his side, he eats up the miles with his distinctive shuffle run and transfixes Australia by winning the race against all odds. At 61 years of age, Cliff Young is a local oddity in the small town of Colac - a vegetarian teetotaller who's never kissed a girl and lives on the family potato farm with his mother. When he's not battling the fickleness of nature, Cliff spends his time running, covering vast distances in a single day. On one of these runs, he meets local girl Mary (Krew Boylan, Wild Boys) and an unexpected connection is formed. When the potato crop fails - again - Cliff enters the inaugural 550 mile Sydney-to-Melbourne footrace, with old friend Wally (Roy Billing, Blue Heelers), now living boozily alone in a caravan, as trainer. This unlikely duo set out to defy the doubters and qualify for the gruelling race. But waiting for Cliff in Sydney are the world's greatest distance runners and a media that view his ramshackle entourage with wide eyed incredulity. Foregoing sleep, Cliff runs eighteen hours a day. When he hits the lead and shuffles on to victory, Australia is utterly transfixed as he wins by the proverbial 'country mile'. Cliffy marries his sweetheart, is celebrated by his nation - and soon finds out fame is a fickle mistress.
