Journalist Philip Dryden is shocked to be informed by police that his father has been killed in a car accident – he drowned during the fenland floods of 1977, 35 years before. At the same time, two unrelated cases are demanding Dryden's professional attention: a body riddled with bullets found hanging in the middle of a lettuce field, and a couple protesting that the local council has buried their baby daughter in a pauper's grave without permission. As Dryden pieces the clues together, he realizes that the three cases may be related after all . . .

Another great story in this peculiarly east English series. He brings up so many obscure historical and geographical facts that you're tempted to check up - and they are always spot on.
'Emerge' says it well !

Another great instalment in this excellent series. Kelly has created a cast of interesting & eccentric characters that evolve with each book featuring this rural slice of England where the surrounding fens & water contribute to the atmosphere of each story. In this book, Dryden receives a shock when police inform him his father has just died in a traffic accident. But his father disappeared in a flood over 30 years ago. It's the tip of the iceberg as soon there is much more involved & before you know it, you've come to the last page. Well rounded characters, tight plots & smart dialogue are the norm in Kelly's books. Can be read as stand alone but the backstory & history carried through will reward the loyal fan.
