"Three years ago an event destroyed the small city of Poughkeepsie, forever changing reality within its borders. Uncanny manifestations and lethal dangers now await anyone who enters the Spill Zone. The Spill claimed Addison's parents and scarred her little sister, Lexa, who hasn't spoken since. Addison provides for her sister by photographing the Zone's twisted attractions on illicit midnight rides. Art collectors pay top dollar for these bizarre images, but getting close enough for the perfect shot can mean death-- or worse. When an eccentric collector makes a million-dollar offer, Addison breaks her own hard-learned rules of survival and ventures farther than she has ever dared. Within the Spill Zone, Hell awaits-- and it seems to be calling Addison's name" --

Spill Zone is a delightful graphic novel with fantastic illustrations of a radioactive zone. The colorful atmosphere of the zone presents fantastic juxtaposition against the death and decay that occurs there. The characters grapple with the effects with the zone in an understandable way and the world adjusts to it's presence appropriately. The adventures of the main character will be continued in the next story to great effect, I highly suggest the Spill Zone series for anyone interested in graphic novels at all.

I regret that I finished this book. It was so good, I didn't want it to end. The premise of the book is a mysterious "spill" in a small town that killed/reanimated/trapped the people there. Addison and her little sister escaped, but now Addison returns, illegally, to the town to photograph the bizarre and eerie phenomenon in the town, and sell her pictures for a profit to collectors. The story is so well written, and the mixture of character, mystery, and horror blend perfectly. The illustrations are equally full of character, and horror. Colors blend and splotch the little town, and the renderings of birds circling in patterns, or helmets melting into the ground, or tornadoes of debris in front of a hospital, are fascinating and repulsive. The good news is there will be a volume 2! I can't wait.

Addison lives outside of Poughkeepsie, NY, which has been an off-limits zone after an unexplained event happened there. Addison’s parents died in the accident and her little sister, Lexa, has not spoken since it happened. To support them both, Addison sneaks inside the Spill Zone illegally, takes pictures, and sells them. She follows seven rules that keep her safe from the monsters in the zone that were created by the accident. An art dealer who she sells her pictures to offers a million dollars to Addison to do new illegal work in the spill zone. To fulfill the job, she goes inside and breaks the rules that have kept her alive.
I enjoyed this graphic novel. It is a blend of sci-fi and mystery, and has excellent storytelling and artwork.

Great character development with Addison, a teenage girl with too much responsibility and plenty of courage and attitude. I like the story line and can see where it's going, looking forward to the next book to see what happens next and to discover what happened to everyone in the town when "The Spill" happened.

The spill zone was once her home town. Now its an off limits zone because of "the accident". Odd things happen in the spill zone, but what really caused them? An interesting blend of sci-fi and light horror. This one is mostly world building and character creation, but still has plenty of intrigue.

A wonderfully atmospheric tale about a small town abandoned and quarantined after a strange accident. Addie, who's parents died in the accident, sneaks in, taking pictures to sell to collectors. Author Westerfield keeps his secrets close, and I'm happily hooked.

Yep, I'm hooked and ready for more. This story has just scratched the surface of the mystery behind events, and provides an excellent introduction to them driven by the engaging characters and their concerns. Excellent storytelling.

I found the artwork sufficient but I wasn't crazy about the style, plus there were some odd coloring choices and too many details left vague and undefined.

Very interesting book! The plot really leads you on, although some of the questions in the book were left unfinished due to there being a 2nd book to the series.
I would definitely recommend reading this book!
