This anti-Freud diatribe seems to back up all its astounding denigrations of Freud with letters written by Freud himself and with copious footnotes. Its negative revelations seem both credible and mind-boggling. The Great Man is reduced to a self-serving, mendacious, inept, somewhat hallucinatory cokehead with a flair for convincing literary output. One flaw: the author sometimes slips into semi-comprehensible psycho-babble akin to a literary Stockholm syndrome, where the describer spins his tale in the language of the one described. Otherwise, this is a must-read item, especially for those interested in the history of mind study.
