Emika Chen lives in New York City and can barely pay her rent or buy food. She can’t find a legitimate paying job because of her criminal record, so she works as a bounty hunter tracking down criminals that are illegally betting on Warcross games. When she loses out on her latest bounty, Emika feels like giving up on everything. She decides to play Warcross to take her mind off her troubles. Emika is also a computer hacker and accidentally glitches herself into a championship game. She soon realizes that she can steal a valuable power-up that she could sell for big money. Unfortunately, when she steals the power-up she reveals her identity to the world. She is summoned by the game’s inventor to come to Tokyo and meet him. Emika is scared that she will be arrested but has no choice and goes to Tokyo. When she gets to Tokyo, she is offered a job to work undercover to find out who is sabotaging the Warcross games.
