Take Groundhog Day, replace Bill Murray with Jessica Rothe's cranky self-centered ingenue, and murder her in new and ever more interesting ways...and you have Happy Death Day. While this tends toward more serious slasher than my usual fare, there are some very entertaining scenes. Like the walk across the college quad during the montage, when the protagonist decides she can do absolutely anything she wants, if her day resets at the end. The identity of the killer is somewhat predictable, but the protagonists journey is not. I was surprised how much I liked this movie.
This slasher film is about a woman who continues to wake up the same day in the same place not too sure what happened. It is not until she gets brutally murdered that she realizes what’s going on. Until she is able to identify her killer, she will be forced to relive the same day that she got murdered again and again. This movie is scary in the sense that no one likes to think about what happens when they die, especially if it means re-living some kind of terrible event. The movie wasn’t as scary as I was hoping and had some accidentally funny scenes, but I would still rate it 3.5/5 stars. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
"Overall, I quite enjoyed Happy Death Day. I thought it was a fun, funny, thrilling movie with a great lead. Jessica Rothe was great to watch, she was energetic, charismatic and funny. I think the movie is surprisingly funny, I wasn’t really expecting to laugh the way I did. I don’t think the movie is a comedy by any means, but it does have a lot of humorous elements, like, I mean the killer wears a baby face mask, that’s funny (and creepy) and one of her deaths is with a bong hahaha..."

I was surprise that I like this movie so much. This was a very good movie I really enjoyed it.
Cute little film. A variation on Run, Lola, Run, Sliding Doors and Groundhog Day. Regarding the reviewer below who referred to a racist song ... they must be thinking of another movie. There're no racist songs at the end of this film.
Bad, very bad, acting, set, everything bad! and it ends with a racist song. Avoid and be happy you never wasted your time
This is actually a very good movie. I thought it would be stupid but was completely fooled had great ending.
A good take on the groundhog day theme with horror elements. Was wrong when trying to guess who the villain was in the end. Stick through the first 10mins or so, it does get better. One review gave up after 7mins, stick through I say, it gets more enjoyable and even some laughs. The bonus content is good, alternate ending not great but most aren't. Not sure if the blu-ray has any added features, I saw the DVD version.
Worth a watch.
I don't usually watch this type of movie anymore (horror) but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The plot was a little more original than others by subtly combining all that you like from a horror movie plus humor... and it couldn't have been done without the talent of lead actress Jessica Rothe. I have no idea who this actress is but I hope to see her in upcoming movies because she's got potential.
Much better than you might think. A Groundhog Day movie premise as others have said, the leading actress does a really good job. Great Friday night movie - we enjoyed it as a party movie.
