First half rather boring and hard to follow. Kept waiting for Kevin Costner to enter the film. Molly put her life at risk dealing with the underworld.

Aaron Sorkin did a similar treatment of the Facebook phenomena in "The Social Network". By similar, I mean endless verbiage recited at a mile a minute. Unfortunately, "Molly's Game" is a far inferior tale than Social Network (which was about believable jerks.)
Idris Elba is totally wasted in this project. See "The Wire" for his finest performance. If he was a baddy like Stringer Bell he would have fit into mizz Molly's lifestyle a lot better.
As it is, it seemed that watching this movie took 2 hours out of my life that will never return.

Smartly written, and directed by Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson's War: 2007; The Social Network: 2010, The Newsroom: tv: 2012-14), and impressively acted by Jessica Chastain (Crimson Peak: 2015; Miss Sloane: 2016; The Zookeepers Wife: 2017).
This is a fast paced film that takes you for a ride basing itself on real events in a book written by Molly Bloom, an ex Olympian quality skier that had to quit due to a bad back. This film does remind me a little of Miss Sloane, because of how it is done with a voice over and is another fine film that ends up in the court room. Good supporting actors and actresses, with Idris Elba (The Dark Tower: 2017; The Mountain Between Us: 2017; Thor: Ragnarok: 2017), as the lawyer and Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves: 1990; JFK: 1991; Hidden Figures: 2016) as her estranged father.
Bonus features are not worth the look, as they are just a minor review.

A riveting dramatization of Molly Bloom's adventures organizing private, high stakes poker games for the rich and famous.

An Olympic hopeful athlete rebuilding her life in a high-stakes poker world after a big crash in sports only to realize that big money and greed are the way of self-destruction. How do you get up and go again? How do you preserve your integrity in the face of tough circumstances? Molly Bloom demonstrates repeatedly – it is possible. This suspenseful and intelligent film with sweeping dialog as if to match Molly’s free-style-skiing speed is based on Molly’s biography book (available at the Johnson County Library). Great. Incredible story and screenplay, steady, brisk pacing and stellar performances. No idea why this wasn't an Oscar contender, except that Hollywood and voting members of The Academy are largely clueless. Watch this!

Fascinating - especially because this is based on a true story. Depicts how one ugly twist of fate changes the trajectory of a young woman's life. Great acting all round. Very entertaining.

A survey was taken a few years ago that asked 300 professionals one question, "What's the worst thing that can happen in sports?" Some people answered losing a game 7, and other people said getting swept in the 4. Some people said it was missing the world cup, and some Brazilians said it was losing to Argentina. Not just in the world cup. Anytime, ever in any contest. But one person answered that the worst thing that can happen in sports is 4th place at the Olympics.

(SOME SPOILERS!!!)

Molly Bloom is an aspiring Olympic gold medalist who, after a freak accident, chooses to take a break from training prior to going to law school. She takes two jobs, one of which leads to an opportunity she hadn't considered or prepared for. Molly's new boss runs a poker game, but not just ANY poker game. It's a game for the rich and famous, and it's her job to set it up, run it, and, of course, count the buy-ins.

One thing leads to another and Molly's boss turns out to be quite crooked. After being put in a bind, Molly decides to take the poker game into her own hands. She ups the ante (both literally and figuratively) and things are going well until Player X makes a dire mistake that Molly simply can't allow at her table.

One phone call is all it takes for Molly to be out of the game, and after two years, she's arrested for her connection to the Russian mob.

This movie will break your heart, make you laugh, and make you cry. Molly's character is witty, charming, and sarcastic - all my favorite qualities. The characters are well-developed, but I found the movie was a little slow in some spots. Four stars, and I will likely watch it again!
