I approach all of these "new" live action remakes of Disney's with trepidation. This one was solidly OK. I liked that the father had a more realized role.

Having watched the 1941 classic recently, I was able to view this from a different perspective. I like that it’s something completely different than the animated film. That’s what Disney needs to do with their live-action remakes. If I want to see the same story again, I’ll just watch the original.

Dumbo is so cute and my eyes would get a little watery whenever Dumbo would take flight. Watching Dumbo fly is quintessential Disney Magic.

I wish Tim Burton did more with the pink elephants sequence. He was the perfect director to tackle that kind of thing and he fumbled it. Still an enjoyable film.

Nico Parker (Milly) has the same facial expression the entire movie, no matter what is happening in the scene. It's creepy.

It was a good movie and I liked the references to the original... I have mixed feelings about the animals because they didn't talk :( I did not like the little girl- Milly.. Her acting was not the best and she had a creepy stare, and not much character building. I would watch again but not better then the OG.

NOT the original 1941 story... This is a 2 STAR reimagined new storyline directed by Tim Burton. Surreal and ineffective in plot. They even have an EVIL DISNEYLANDESQUE finale. It's live actors filmed in a surreal way with CGI. Not cartoonish but everything looks dark and ominous settings.

I thought it was just OK because I grew up on the original in the 1960's and that film is a child's classic story.

I gave this three stars because my four year old loves elephants and therefore wanted to watch the movie several times, but I didn't think it was good enough to watch the whole thing through once. The characters and story were just not that compelling, and even during the dramatic part at the end I felt no pull to stop me from getting up and leaving to start making dinner. It seems they cast the main little girl purely based on her slightly ethnic looks, because she had zero charisma and her acting was barely adequate. Being a Tim Burton film, it was visually interesting, and most of the CGI was pretty good.

If you love the original, you will not like this: it seriously messes with the story. Pretty much a completely new story, with odd nods to the original songs and fantasy sequence. Also somewhat odd that Disney let them sort of take out Disneyland ...

Disney used to be the gold standard of fantasy films. Sadly, those days seem in the past. Dumbo is not quite a dud, but it's never a good thing when you keep looking at your watch. One can speculate why the studio's (non-superhero) productions are no longer a sure thing, including cranking out way too many movies each year. Even this once-sterling brand cannot compensate for a lack of soul simply with CGI glitter.
