I can certainly see how this became a classic- it filled a literary gap at just the right time for young readers who were looking for a survival story that appealed to their age. It is believable, and poor Brian suffers almost every hardship possible in his 54 day stay in the Canadian wilderness. His problem solving and thought processes alone are worth the read, if you can get past the ridiculous way it's written. It is so repetitive that at several points I wanted to put the book down and walk away. It's short, which is, in the end, its saving grace. I will continue with the series since I'm curious, but I'll need a short break from the third grade writing style.
