“Requiem for a Dream,” Darren Aronofsky’s second film, starts with a mother, her son, and the two friends each having a dream for a better life. Unfortunately, the mother gets addicted to weight loss drugs, and the son and his friends get addicted to hard drugs. Aronofsky uses the latest electronic techniques to show what happens to people’s dreams when they go off the deep end with their trips to hell. If you have even 1% thought of getting hooked on either prescription drugs or cocaine or heroin, try this movie first. If you are lucky, this movie will be enough to change your mind. Ellen Burstyn was nominated for an Oscar as best actress in a not so pretty role. Aronofsky would go on to make two more universally acclaimed films, “The Wrestler” and “Black Swan.”
