This movie was lacking- the title character was too childish, the typical Miyzaki environmental message was initially too strong and had no follow through, and despite hinting at bad things that could happen (evil wizard, typhoon) there was no real conflict. I guess this would be great for little kids in that respect, but my sympathies to their parents. The best part of the movie was the drive back to the house during the storm- very suspenseful. But this scene also included the most unrealistic part. Sure, I'm willing to suspend my beliefs and accept there is a wizard who lives in the sea, a fish that can turn into a girl, and the magical protections that are produced, but I just can't accept the fact that Shosuke's mom drove through a couple of feet of raging water without getting washed off the road. Ridiculous.
