Good – The Joneses (2009) 96 min. Lies come in many shapes and sizes. Truth, on the other hand, is unique; one of a kind. It may not be wonderful at all times, but it’s real. The Joneses explores the theme of materialism to the nth degree. It’s about a group of people pulled together as a “family” unit to impress those around them in selling the products they’re endorsing. Some are drawn by the power; some are destroyed. It’s never greener on the other side; it’s only another patch of grass with its own kind of weeds. One of the neighbors pays the greatest price in discovering this truth. This is one of those rare films that begged me to sit and watch until the very end. The film is not perfect as the messages become a little gray by the end of the film but it’s definitely thought provoking. Well done.
